In celebration of Florida Arbor Day, enjoy a conversation with environmental expert Charles Reith, PhD, as he describes the theory and planting strategy behind the high-performance microforests that have been planted in Manatee and Sarasota Counties as fast-growing agents of increased resilience. Dr. Reith will also speak to his experiences while a professor at Tulane University understanding the important role of trees during Hurricane Katrina as agents of protection against the ravages of tropical storms.
About Charles Reith, PhD
Charles Reith is an ecologist with five decades of experience doing revegetation projects in the US and abroad. In greater Sarasota, his work has focused on reforesting parks and neighborhoods where turf can be transformed into fast-growing forest habitats using a combination of Miyawaki planting strategies and permaculture-inspired soil management. Charles has a PhD in Restoration Ecology from the University of New Mexico .
